His early musical exploits, particularly the fact that he wrote most of his band's songs with a metaphorical bent, set the stage for his writing. Subsequent careers in the corporation and advertising photography gave him fodder for studying human relationships, organizations, and art.

Teaching photography AND writing allowed him to experience the analytical sides of both crafts, which paved the way for his starting Eloquence Press, the perfect outlet for his love of story and the rationale behind it—a true study of man's interaction with his environment. Jack's love of the graphic arts has also enabled him to design his book covers.

Eight summers of study at U of Iowa's famed Festival of Writing gave Jack more tools to perfect the subtleties of his writing in a number of genré, although he has decided that "unique contemporary drama" is a term that most accurately describes his work. It evolves from the drama he has found in many slices of Americana, some which he has personally experienced. The trade would commonly call his work "commercial fiction" or "mainstream fiction," but, as you shall see, its intensity and his allegorical style also gives the work a certain literary quality.
